21 May, 2020, Guwahati: Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), a pandemic of respiratory disease spreading from person-to-person. This situation is currently highly alarming with a very serious public health risk, which may leads to death. In the wake of spurt in multiple cases of coronavirus pandemic in the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India on March 14, 2020 has decided to treat COVID-19 as a Notified Disaster. Therefore, NIPER-G being a premier Institute of National Importance endeavors to help the country in fighting coronavirus through quick validated prototype/product development and deployment. NIPER-G is committed to provide a useful contribution, solution and possible scale-up of their validated technologies in terms of developing protective gears to avoid the spread of COVID-19 to the people across the country.
In this view, Hon'ble Director, Dr. USN Murty, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER)-Guwahati signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mr. M. B. Palhade, Assistant Manager, Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL), Pimpri, Pune on 20th May 2020. HAL, Pune showed their keen interest to take forward the protective gears developed by NIPER-G in large scale manufacturing process & commercialization with special interest on 3D printed antimicrobial face shield. The purpose is to implementing the innovation developed by NIPER-G for its wider usage in endemic zones of all around the country especially in this global alarming pandemic situation arising out of serious COVID-19 outbreak. Very soon, NIPER-G developed innovative 3D printed products will be commercialized by HAL to mitigate the menace of COVID-19 outbreak.
